why natural dye matters

what touches your skin at 90°c should never be a mystery.

colour is the part most sauna brands stay quiet about. here's why we don't think that's good enough, and what we do differently.

01

heat and sweat open the door

hot, sweaty skin is about the easiest route there is for something to get absorbed into your body. a sauna is 80 to 100°c, your pores are wide open, and your skin is damp for the entire session. whatever is sitting in the fabric against your scalp has ideal conditions to make contact with you, again and again, session after session.

02

synthetic dye isn't always safe

cheap synthetic dyes can carry heavy metals, chemicals that have no business sitting against warm, damp skin for an hour at a time. most brands don't say what's actually in the colour. if a product won't tell you what its dye is made of, that's usually the answer in itself.

03

the beige compromise

most sauna gear makes you pick one: safe or colourful, never both. beige plays it safe, but skips the fun entirely. colourful gets the fun right, but that colour too often comes from petroleum based dyes, exactly what you don't want against warm, damp skin. that's the trade-off most brands expect you to just accept.

04

traceable isn't the same as natural sounding

plenty of products get called natural without anyone being able to say where an ingredient actually came from. that's not good enough for something that sits against your scalp at 90°c. traceable means every part of the colour, not just the material, can be followed back to its source.

real colour, no synthetics.

löyl hats are coloured the old way, by hand, in a small family dye house in the foothills of the himalayas. indigo plants for the blue, lac resin for the pink, set with alum, a naturally occurring mineral salt. no chrome, no heavy metals, nothing hiding in small print.
